The U.S. Census Bureau has selected Shakopee to be one of eight offices in the state charged with running the 2010 census.
Candidates are being interviewed right now to manage the site, which will officially open at Shakopee Town Square on Oct. 1, said Dennis Johnson, the Kansas City regional director for the U.S. Census Bureau. Staff hope to begin setting the office up in mid-August to early September.
The center will be staffed by approximately 50 during peak operations (from roughly this fall through the middle of next year) and send out approximately 1,000 field workers into Scott County and the southwestern portion of the state.
